"All volunteers have the satisfaction of being a part of change and working towards a more positive future. They support and benefit others while gaining a lot themselves and bettering their communities and society at large. It’s all win-win."

From the very beginning, Ethnic Enable has relied greatly on the contribution of our volunteers who have a wide range of skills, experience and knowledge and support us in furthering the aims of the organisation. Since 2005, Ethnic Enable has developed a structured volunteering program, whereby individuals who wish to enhance particular skills or wish to develop certain skills or are wanting to gain experience can contribute their time and effort in our projects and develop themselves. Along with the practical experience, volunteers undergo training to help them enhance or learn new skills. Training can range from Disability Awareness, First Aid, Moving and Handling, Sports Coaching and personal development training.

Furthermore, we have a specialised framework which encourages individuals with disabilities to become active volunteers. The program is tailored to meet individual needs by exploring their interests and enrolling them onto an activity program they wish to volunteer for and would enjoy. The specialist program is designed to give the volunteers the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities such as general administration, particular projects, organising and participating in fundraising events and on an advisory capacity. It creates inspiration and role model images to see volunteers with disabilities carrying out day to day tasks and beyond. With support given, the volunteers can enhance positive relationships with others, make new friends and boost their confidence and independence by engaging them into the society The volunteering program gives the volunteers an opportunity to learn new skills and gain valuable experience which helps them progress into future employment, training and education helping to make mainstream services more representative

“I enjoy using my time to help others. I want to use my energy and efforts to put something back into the community”

“Helping my friends with a disability to become more independent has truly been rewarding. It gives me a buzz that my support has enabled them to do so many things they weren’t able to do before”
